Same Day Dental Implants in Belleair Bluffs, FL
One appointment, one surgeon, and in the right cases a functional tooth or arch the same visit. Here is what qualifies a patient for a same-day approach and what the day itself actually looks like.
What Same-Day Implant Treatment Actually Means
Same Day Dental Implants in Belleair Bluffs, FL refers to placing an implant and attaching a temporary tooth or fixed provisional arch during the same surgical visit, instead of waiting several months between placement and restoration. The clinical term is immediate load. It is not a shortcut. It is a specific protocol that only works when the bone, the bite, and the case planning all line up.
The traditional path looks like this: extract or evaluate the tooth, place the implant, wait three to six months for the bone to integrate, then restore. The same-day path compresses the first two steps and adds a temporary restoration on top. The permanent crown or final prosthesis still comes later, once the implant has healed and the tissue has settled.
Dr. Ralph M. Eichstaedt evaluates every case for candidacy before recommending an immediate-load approach. He has been in academic and private practice since 1990 and trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Washington University and Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, followed by a fellowship in tumor and reconstructive surgery at the University of Miami under the renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeon Robert Marx, DDS. He is the sole surgeon here, which means the surgeon who plans your case is the surgeon who performs it.
Who Qualifies for Immediate-Load Implants and Who Does Not
Candidacy for same-day implants comes down to bone. An immediate-load implant has to be stable enough at the moment of placement to tolerate a temporary tooth without micromovement. That stability, called primary stability, depends on how much healthy bone is available and how dense it is. A CBCT scan taken in-house tells us that before we start.
Good candidates usually have adequate bone height and width at the site, healthy gum tissue, no active infection at the surgical area, and a bite that can be adjusted so the temporary tooth is not taking full chewing force during healing. Smokers, patients with uncontrolled diabetes, and patients on certain medications that affect bone healing are evaluated more carefully, and in some cases a staged approach is safer.
Patients with significant bone loss are not automatically ruled out, but they may need Bone Grafting in Belleair Bluffs, FL or a Sinus Lift in Belleair Bluffs, FL before an implant can be placed with confidence. If a graft is needed, Dr. Eichstaedt will tell you plainly at the consultation, along with the timeline that follows.
For full-arch cases, the same-day approach is often referred to as All-on-4 Dental Implants in Belleair Bluffs, FL, where four to six implants support a fixed provisional bridge placed the same day. Single-tooth immediate load is a different conversation and is covered in more depth on the Single Tooth Replacement in Belleair Bluffs, FL page.
What the Same-Day Implant Appointment Looks Like
The visit starts with imaging review and anesthesia. Options range from local anesthesia alone to oral sedation, IV sedation, or general anesthesia, chosen around the case and your comfort level. Many patients weighing implant surgery are anxious specifically about being awake, so this conversation happens at the consultation, not the morning of surgery. More detail lives on the Dental Anesthesia in Belleair Bluffs, FL page.
If a failing tooth is being replaced, it is removed first, and the socket is cleaned. The implant is then placed into the prepared site, often using a surgical guide printed in-house on the SprintRay 3D printer from the CBCT plan. Guided placement matters here because immediate-load protocols leave very little margin for angulation error.
Once the implant torques into place with enough stability, an abutment and a temporary crown or provisional bridge are attached. The temporary is intentionally shaped out of heavy contact so you are not biting directly on it during healing. You leave with a tooth in the space, written aftercare instructions, and a follow-up scheduled.
For referral patients, the consultation and the procedure are frequently completed in a single visit when the case allows. That spares you a second trip and a second round of time off work.
What Is Included on the Day of Your Implant Placement
Everything needed to plan and place the implant stays under one roof. Digital imaging and CBCT 3D scanning, surgical guide printing, the placement itself, and the temporary restoration are all handled in the same office by the same surgeon. You are not being handed off between locations or clinicians mid-case.
Anesthesia is delivered on site by Dr. Eichstaedt. Preoperative instructions, including fasting requirements when sedation is planned, are covered in the Before Anesthesia Instructions. Bring a driver if you are having IV sedation or general anesthesia.
The visit also includes a written recovery plan. There will be swelling, and there will be a soft-food period. Most patients manage discomfort with over-the-counter medication and a short course of prescribed medication when appropriate. The temporary tooth stays in place while the implant integrates with the bone, typically over three to six months, before the final restoration is made and seated.
A daily emergency appointment slot is reserved on the schedule, so if something feels off during healing, you are not waiting weeks to be seen.
What Same-Day Implants Cost and How Insurance Applies
Cost and coverage get answered directly. The fee for a same-day implant depends on how many implants are placed, whether an extraction or bone graft is needed at the same visit, the type of anesthesia chosen, and whether the case is a single tooth or a full arch. A written estimate is provided after the consultation, once imaging has been reviewed and the plan is set.
Most major PPO dental plans are accepted, along with several supplemental plans. Coverage for implants varies widely by plan, and some medical plans contribute when the implant is tied to a covered condition. Our team files the claim and tells you the expected out of pocket before you schedule surgery. Sunbit payment plans are available for patients who want to spread the cost across monthly payments.

How Same-Day Implants Compare to Waiting Months Between Visits
The obvious advantage of same-day placement is that you do not walk around with a gap during healing. For a front tooth, that matters. For a full-arch case where a patient is transitioning out of a failing dentition or an ill-fitting denture, walking out with fixed teeth the same day is often the whole point.
The clinical trade-off is that immediate-load cases require more upfront planning, tighter surgical execution, and stricter aftercare compliance during the first weeks. Traditional staged implants remain a good option when bone volume is limited, when infection needs to resolve first, or when the bite would put too much load on the implant during healing. Dr. Eichstaedt will recommend the approach that fits the case, not the one that sounds faster on paper.
Outcomes vary based on bone health, hygiene, medical history, and how closely aftercare instructions are followed. Implants are designed to last for decades with proper care, and the office remains the point of contact for follow-up imaging and long-term monitoring.
What patients tell us

Dr. Eichstaedt pulled one of my back teeth. It was the best experience. Out in no time. I went to another oral surgeon for a tooth just because of insurance. Not good. I would use Dr. Eichstaedt and pay full price rather than suffer a less skilled surgeon.
Treated like family The whole experience was so pleasant. The facility was so inviting and calming. They offer juice, water, snacks in the waiting room and from phone calls to actual appointment this place has every part of customer service. Thank you Ava and Lindsey you rock.
I was very pleased with Dr. Eisenstadt. He explained my wisdom tooth extraction before and after procedures carefully. His staff paid attention to every detail in the preparation, and the entire procedure from prepping to finish was under one hour! I appreciate the staff as well, as they are friendly, informative and helpful. I highly recommend Belleair Oral Surgery & Implants for all of your dental needs.
My husband went to Dr. Eichstaedt for a necessary molar extraction. Our experience pre, during, and post service has been excellent. The office staff gave us the information and instructions we needed and we found them to be welcoming and efficient. Dr. Eichstaedt came highly recommended with many years of experience. He was thorough and professional , and didn't rush us with our exchange of health history and questions. The procedure went well ! The tooth fairy will be very pleased tonight!
Dr Ralph Eichstaedt is a very skilled and compassionate oral surgeon! The girls at the desk are very friendly and answered all my questions about insurance before arriving! Would recommend 10/10!
I went in for a removal of an impacted wisdom, tooth, and Dr.Eichstaedt did a great job. He was very informative and very friendly. Because of my age 73 my recovery time was longer. I went back three times for him to check me out and he was very helpful to me and got me in right away. His office staff was very nice and friendly, and I liked to joke around with them. Great job to all !
I am 34 years old and a mom of two toddlers who just got all 4 wisdom teeth (2 partially impacted) removed by Dr. E. I am about 4 days post-op but everything seems to have gone amazing and the pain hasn’t been nearly as bad as I was worrying about. I have been told since I was a teen I needed to have them removed and didn’t do it until this point in life. I was super nervous going into this procedure. I had previously been told (at other consults / other oral surgeons) that my lower wisdom teeth were a very difficult removal and risked nerve damage. I was also very concerned about the recovery and having a baby and other young child at home. I had also been previously told that it would be best to remove only the top portion of impacted teeth to decrease nerve damage risk. Dr. E quickly eased ALL of these concerns and worries. He was extremely kind and took the time to explain all details/ options and even his thoughts on nerve damage risk (which he felt to be very low and I trusted that). He eased my mind about the entire process from before the procedure, and what form of medication was to be used, to the post- op care. The staff here is amazing and kind! It was truly a wonderful experience and I am SO thankful I got a second opinion and ended up being with Dr. E! Again about 4 days out and the pain has been manageable with Advil/ Tylenol and gone pretty well! So thankful for him and this team!
